MFR’s January in Review

Worst Movie of the Month: Haywire for being so lauded by critics for something so utterly soulless, unmemorable and poorly plotted.

Disappointment of the Month: The Descendants – an Oscar favourite? Seriously?

Performance of the Month: Charlize Theron in Young Adult, Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan in Shame and Leonardo Di Caprio in J. Edgar. All 4 are so brilliant it’s very difficult to pick a favourite and certainly some of the best performances I’ve seen of the last 12 months.

Surprise of the Month: The Grey for not being the ‘Liam Neeson versus wolves’ movie you see in the trailer. It’s actually rather good and stuck with me more than I expected.

Movie of the Month: War Horse. While there have been some terrific films reviewed on this blog over the past month, this grand equine epic just above stands above them all.
